Sex workers at Nevada’s Moonlite Bunny Ranch have officially announced their endorsement of Hillary Clinton for President of the United States:
While mainstream sites and, especially, conservative bloggers want to reduce the Hookers For Hillary endorsement to “humorous news” or even tried to flip this into a Hillary attack point, the Bunnies have an actual four-point platform behind their endorsement. Which is far more than I can say for most pundits. Hell, it’s more than most candidates have. And saner that what’s out there too.
Among the Bunnies’ platform points are protection of health care reform (aka The Affordable Health Care Act, which made health insurance available for the first time to the 500 independent contractors at the Bunny Ranch ~ and millions more citizens) and support for agencies that protect the public’s health.
And how’s this for a salient economy platform point?
*Prevention of a return to supply side economics
Bill Clinton presided over the most prosperous time in Bunny Ranch history, which coincided with a tax increase on the wealthiest Americans such as brothel owner Dennis Hof. The Bunnies recognize that thriving economies are built from the bottom up, where the vast majority of their clients originate. A return to relying on the disproven theory of trickle-down economics would only serve to exclude the vast majority of hard-working Bunny Ranch clients from having the discretionary income to enjoy with their favorite Bunny.
Sure, all this can all be seen as a publicity move by Hof. Especially the line about avoiding future Secret Service scandals by making sure “her detail ‘buys American.'” But what’s wrong with that?
Hey, Republicans, isn’t earning your income preferable to a handout?
Honestly, I’d like to amend Shawnee’s plea that voters should be as serious about elections as gamblers to include sex workers too. Sex workers certainly are marginalized, but they are voting citizens with needs as well as an eye on the economy.
