Oh No, Rosie!

It had to happen, but I'm not happy: Rosie O'Donnell to leave "The View" mid-June.

Will I continue to make my 10 a.m. appointment to watch The View?

I hope I make all the Rosie shows (which depends upon me knowing about them), but likely no... Pending who they add, of course....

We Have Not Come A Long Way, Baby

The same tactics used by the anti-suffragist movement were used to end ERA, and are the same arguments used to 'return to family values.' The dangers of women with rights are apparent ~ fear everywhere! Including in our courts...

It's so disheartening.

See also: I Hate To See A Woman Do A Man's Work ~ which begs the question, what's the worst thing a person can do? Love another of their own sex? Apparently, or gay & lesbian folks would have the same rights as men and hetero couples.

Such crap.

I may have to take to my bed....

Panties in a Knot

If you, like I, find yourself with your knickers in a knot over the current state of politics, Slip of a Girl has two posts to see:

One regarding "No peace, no pussy" panties.

The other, Christians recommend having lingerie parties to find and convert more Christians....

What's Up With Religion? (A Study in Genre Drama)

In "On the evolutionary basis of religion" Tozier examines religion ~ much to my delight.

He ponders a "Bunch of stories about how a select few dominate whole cultures by being proxy enforcers of supposed divine will", looking at several of the current fad hypothesis, and asking the question, "Why then do so many belong to the religion?"

His fundamental finding? I'm so glad you asked!

"Religion arose and flourished because it justifies and enhances an innate and universal human need to boss other people around."

Amen.

(Now you say, "Amen," too. Or I'll kick you out of my cult.)...

Rosie O'Donnell on The View, March 29, 2007

Rosie O'Donnell speaks out about how the U.S. has limited media ~ Mainstream Media is limited to four companies, ABC,NBC,CBS, and FOX, which are spewing propaganda and hiding the truth.

Among other things, she states that just about every high level member of the Bush administration is under investigation from Rove to Gonzalez, and that the war to Iraq was cherry picked lies ~ and asks, "Just what do you have to do in this country to be impeached."

Rosie is a national treasure and I sure hope that ABC doesn't do as some are saying and boot her from the show. In a world where so many Americans state they get their news from The Daily Show I proudly proclaim that my must see TV includes The View's 'Hot Topics' section.

I love ya, Rosie....

Almost Blue

I've been busy and sick, but I did manage to crawl out of my sick bed to vote (the thought of survival and the world I would then have to endure was a fate literally worse than death) and since then have been posting quite a bit to the SK message boards.

I'm not sure what will become of this blog. Time contraints have made it near impossible to write as much (and timely) about politics as I'd like, and I've had to turn off the commenting function here because of spammers. Aside from the link to two to others, I just can't manage it all.

So for now, I hope you'll pop in at SK and talk there. I'll keep you posted on what happens with this blog as soon as I figure it out. ...

Subpoena Power

I'd like to introduce you to the latest project by No Evil Productions, a flash game about corruption at Capital Hill called Subpoena Power. It is a satirical jab, sure, but it is also a fully realized, carefully designed action game.To find out more, read our exclusive pre-release game review!I got to play a round of the game too, and I think it's cool that it's not about any 'side' or political party, but about the system itself.I think it's worth mentioning that while thousands of hours and dollars were spent on this project, the game is free to play. The makers simply hope that if they can get the word out and drive traffic to the site, then maybe they can coax some of the vistors and players into thinking about not just the little game, but the big game too.So I am throwing all my support behind this game. I hope all of you will too ~ so blog about it, link to the Subpoena Power site itself &/or our review ~ anything to spread the word! With much affection,Gracie...

While America Jumps Up & Down With Glee...

Many Americans were thrilled when Bush signed the Adam Walsh Act into Law on July 27th. Who doesn't want to protect children? But what's not generally known by many Americans ~ and is not accepted by a large number who do know, is that this law lumps many entertainment professionals in with sex offenders and pedophiles.

Yes, I'm talking about adult content providers, webmasters, and you.

For along with registration for sex offenders, education grants, 200 new federal prosecutors, and 45 new computer forensic scientists to work on such crimes, this law also includes laws and regulations for 'internet pornographers' known as 2257.

While on the surface of things, 2257 seems to simply be a paper-shuffle of record keeping, what many Americans fail to realize is that these requirements are near impossible. And as such webmasters and others in the business will be subject to federal searches and criminal penalties ~ none of which is child protection, as this act is who-ha'd to be.

Not Only That...

As if this weren't enough, this act also has an amendment to U.S.C. 18 §1465 which prohibits the production of "obscenity" as well as the transportation, distribution and sale of "obscenity."

And remember, obscenity...

No Sex For You, Or You Lose My Vote

Republican Susan Combs wrote a "romance novel" when she was between jobs, and now her Democratic opponent is trying to use this in a 'smear' campaign. You can read about it here.

My question is, does anyone really vote based on such things? Personally, I find those who claim to never have had sex or to have no interest in sex are the ones not to trust.

Very surprised a Democrat would make this sort of a fuss too. Usually, this is a Republican objection....

Dear Abby - Do not punch out transsexual

Published in Jun. 16, 2006 Dear Abby Column

Dear Abby: I recently met a gorgeous woman I'll call "Giselle." After we had dated for a couple of months and became physically involved, she told me she had had gender reassignment surgery and used to be a man. I was, to say the least, shocked and deeply disturbed.

I did not punch out Giselle as I would have liked to, which brings me to my question. What is the etiquette regarding physically confronting someone like that? Is it the same as hitting a girl? We're roughly the same size.

- Distressed in Virginia

Dear Distressed: Because Giselle is now a female, it would, indeed, have been the same as hitting a girl, and I'm glad you restrained yourself. I have a feeling that she was probably more hurt that you stopped seeing her than any physical blow you might have inflicted. As to the "etiquette" regarding hitting her: If you hit someone of either gender, it's assault and battery or worse, and it's a crime that can land you in jail....

Transjustice Alert

The New York City Police Department and the City of New York are attempting to deny TransJustice’s applications to march and rally on 8th Avenue.

On June 6th, during a meeting at Manhattan South, NYPD Assistant Chief Bruce Smolka, made an anti-LGBT remark when he told TransJustice members "to Go Back to The Village" and that a 5:00pm rally at 42nd Street & 8th Avenue would not be allowed.

TransJustice, a project of the Audre Lorde Project A Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit & Trans People of Color Community Organizing Center, has called the rally at 42nd Street & 8th Avenue to address the growing violence and murders of Trans People. The rally will also be used to commemorate the 6th year anniversary of Amanda Milan, a 25 year-old African-American transgender woman, who was brutally murdered, on June 20, 2000, in the middle of an intersection near Port Authority Bus Terminal as onlookers cheered.

Historically, 8th Avenue has been regarded as the place that several LGBT and HIV organizations as well as LGBT nightclubs have called home. TransJustice selected this 8th Ave route to call attention to innumerable members of our communities that work, reside, play, as well as access supportive services,...
